Dovetails Made Easy

No Math or Measuring Required

Use center finder (see pdf below) to mark center of tail board, then visually center align with one of the slots as shown.
Put Tail Jig on top of pin board and a business card. Adjust dovetail bit height to just touch the backer board. This will cut a joint with end grain slightly proud (the business card thickness) of the boards.
Rout pin slots with the dovetail bit thus producing the tail board.
Place pin board on table and align tail board and draw two lines showing the location of one pin.
Align pin board marks with Pin Jig and clamp in place.
Place Pin Jig on top of the tail board and a business card. Adjust the pattern bit height to just touch the backer board. This will cut a joint with end grain slightly proud of the boards.
Rout the tail slots with the pattern bit producing the pin board.
Glue joint together and sand the end grain smooth.

The Dovetail joint is complete!

No math required to calculate the depth of cut!
