Answer |
| Must
I use an 8 degree dovetail bit? |
Yes.
The pin jig
"triangles" are machined to an 8 degree angle and a 14 degree or
anything else will not work. |
| What
router bit/ bearing combination do I use to cut box joints? |
Remove
the 1/2 inch bearing on the pattern bit and replace it with the 5/8
inch bearing normally used on the dovetail bit. |
| The
wood splits when I machine the dovetail or pin boards. What can I do? |
Put
a sacrificial board in front of the pin or tail board being machined. |
| I
damaged my TemplateMasterTM while cutting a
working template. Is there anything I can do? |
Yes.
Fill out the Honor
Statement in the back of your User's Manual (or print it out from the
User's Manual on the CD-ROM) and mail it to us. We will replace our
damaged master for 1/2 the cost of your original purchase as long as you
have registered your product with us. |
| I
noticed that the TemplateMasterTM
requires removing a
License Agreement tag before you can use it. What is this? |
The
purpose of the TemplateMasterTM
is to clone itself.
Therefore we are verifying your honesty that only you will use the tool
and you will not be passing it around to others to use for free. It is
exactly the same as the "shrink wrap" agreement that comes with
almost all computer software. Please help us fight "tool
piracy". |
| Why
do dovetail bits come at 7, 8, 9, 12 &, 14 degrees? |
Who
knows why other dovetail jig manufactures require special angles (and
difficult to obtain bits). We chose 8 degrees because it most closely
matches the historical 8:1 ratio suggested for hand cut dovetails in
hardwood.
The 14 degree bits are used
almost exclusively with dovetail jigs that only produce half-blind
dovetails because the steep angle is slightly more forgiving in the
extremely critical depth of cut adjustment on these jigs. This extremely
critical adjustment is why most people end up throwing away the
cheap jig they purchased because it too difficult to use!
Stock thickness variations
are not significant with the working jigs produced with the TemplateMasterTM
. This is why
your working jigs are so easy to use.

| Where
can I purchase bits? |
You
can purchase them from all the major bit manufacturers such as CMT,
Whiteside, Jesada, and retailers such as Rockler, Woodcraft,
etc. or you can purchase them directly from us. |
| Must
I use a bearing on the dovetail bit? Why can I not use a 5/8 inch router
bushing? |
You
can use a bushing mounted directly on your router but we recommend using
the bearing on the router bit for two reasons: (1) guide bushing usually
are not concentric with the router bit therefore the bearing is much more
accurate (2) the bearing reduces the vibration of the bit when cutting and
produces a cleaner cut because it reduces the "chatter" when
machining. |
